Bass Rock has quite a history to tell. This rock has served as a retreat for St. Baldred, as a fort for hundreds of soldiers in the mid-sixteenth century to defend the entrance of the firth against the english and as location for a lighthouse which was built in the 19th century. Today Bass Rock serves again as a retreat but now for thousands of gannets who come to breed here and raise their chicks on this remarkable place at the entrance of the firth of forth, a few miles off the coast of North Berwick.
